Seattle

About 3 weeks ago, Jake and I headed up to Seattle for the weekend to see a Mutemath show and for a little getaway. We've jokingly discussed making a habit out of this--traveling to various cities around the country to see different bands. Shows obviously aren't so much my thing as they are my husband's, but I LOVE to travel, so I'm not usually a hard sell when it involves seeing a new place. This plan totally depends on our income, of course, but it's a fun idea. Seattle is actually a super easy getaway for us, just a quick 4 hour drive up north. Hopefully, that means we'll be visiting this city more often in years to come!

I'll let Jake give you the rundown of the Mutemath show, as it was the first show I'd seen and don't have anything to compare it to. (And because it's about time my husband weighed in on this thing!). Here are his thoughts...

EPIC!!!  The only thing that would have made it the best show ever would be if the first band was actually good.  I don't even remember their name.  Mutemath played for over 2 hours and played every song from their new album (my favorite album of all time).  They also peppered in a bunch of other great songs.  Their background for their show was amazing as usual and so was the energy.  Their shows are the kind of shows that you just want to sit back and watch in amazement, which is what we did.  We got a great spot right next to the sound booth which is the best place to be to have the best sound, and we could still see everything.  Mutemath is my favorite band and once again they came through live.  Best live band I have ever seen......EVER.   Here are some pics from the show:

Before our trip, so many people gave us so many helpful hints as to what do with the rest of our weekend. Thankfully, (and intentionally) there was plenty of sightseeing and great food/drinks within walking distance of our hotel. We, of course, made it to Pike's Place first thing Saturday morning. That place is way cool, but way PACKED! We made our way through there quicker than we would have liked, but with our sanity intact. Unfortunately for us, the Columbia Tower (which, apparently, offers great views of the city) is closed on the weekends. Boo. But, we did stop by the Seattle Library, which not only holds dozens of books, but is a very cool architectural structure. And we ate lots and lots of really, really great food. And drank plenty of really good coffee... mmmm.

Then, because we were feeling blessed by my previous week's job offer, we indulged ourselves and did a little shopping. In the Corvallis/Albany area we only have Target, Old Navy, Ross and TJ Maxx at our disposal. Which, actually, has been a huge blessing because up until now, we were pretty tight on money. Also, people here could really care less what you look like and subsequently, what you wear. Sometimes that bums me out, but mostly it's just really, really liberating. I didn't realize how exhausting it was worrying about that in my previous life. But I digress... We picked up a pair of jeans for Jake and a few clearance household items at Urban. Because we live in a small town, shopping in a big city does feel like somewhat of an event, but we weren't so excited about the 10% tax thing :(.

Sunday morning, Jamie, one of my first friends from my Westmont days, and her husband Jordan very generously picked us up and took us to one of their favorite little French coffee and pastry shops in the Queen Anne area.  Jamie and Jordan are at a very similar place in life, and it was really good to chat about moving, making friends, and attempting to balance work, grad school, and marriage and trying to do all of that well! The coffee was excellent and  it was SO good to catch up!

Needless to say, Seattle was awesome. Next stop on our list: Bend (again) in May for a little grown-up family trip. Can't wait!
