Renewal

Well, our sunshine-y luck finally ran out :(. As of Christmas Day, it's been raining pretty dang consistently. Boo. I can't complain too much, though, as it means I've finally been able to wear the super cute Wellies I got on sale at Lands End. Yay for attire that is both practical AND attractive.

We were blessed to get four days off to head down to Klamath Falls to celebrate Christmas and spend a few days with my family. Unfortunately, Riley and Curtis aren't having their "Christmas" visit until later this week, so it was just the five of us, but we had a really good time. While this was the first Christmas we've had in Klamath with no snow, it made our drive monumentally easier, as the Willamette Pass can be a beast in the wintertime. Jake and I actually spent the night in our car in the snow last winter after getting stuck on a pass (in Southern California, no less!) and we really didn't want to relive that experience. My parents' house is always remarkably restful, and we enjoyed my mom's super yummy cooking, and lots of games and good movies.

And then we got a HUGE bonus! Last week, some of our nearest and dearest friends, Mark and Kelli, made a quick trip up to Portland for a few days. As soon as we got back from Klamath on Wednesday afternoon, we quickly unloaded the car, regrouped, and headed right back out on the road. After four months away it was so, so good to spend an entire evening with friends who know just about everything about us. We've missed them so much!

Ok, now, hold the phone everyone... the Bennetts hosted their first non-familial, Oregonian guests on New Year's Eve. One of Jake's former coworkers and his girlfriend joined us to ring in the new year. After four months of whining and complaining about being lonely, we got to see our family, our best friends, AND host new friends at our house all in one week?!? It's crazy, I know. 2011 was, quite obviously, a gigantic year for us, and coming off the heels of this week, we're feeling pretty good going into 2012.

Happy New Year!
