In-laws in Oregon

We had such a great visit with Jake's parents last week! It was their first visit since we moved, and they hadn't been up to the Willamette Valley in several years. The best part about people coming to visit (aside from getting to see the people we love, of course) is visiting all of our favorite locales in and around Corvallis.  We couldn't take much (or any) time off work, but we did our best to squeeze in as much as we could in our free mornings and afternoons.

Saturday was the only full day that both Jake and I didn't have to work, so we headed over to the coast after picking up our packets for the half-marathon. The weather was rainy and windy in Corvallis, so we were anticipating that the coast would be worse. Not so--it was a gorgeous, sunny day beachside. After grabbing lunch at Rogue, we walked around and did some shopping in Newport's Historic Bayfront and then headed over to Yaquina Beach State Park.

Sunday morning, Roxanne and I ran the Corvallis Half Marathon. It was her lucky number thirteen, and my third half. I've done a few, small races since we've moved, but I haven't completed 13.1 since 2010, and based on my (inadequate) training regimen, I was feeling less than confident the day of. Turns out, it was the most fun and the best race I've ever had. Roxanne was a great partner, particularly up the slow, steady hill on mile 7 when I really, really wanted to walk. The weather turned out to be perfect (rain was projected), the course was absolutely beautiful, and we had a great morning. Prior to this race I had decided that it would be my last half, but I don't know if I'm quite ready to do that just yet... :)

The organization I work for is the title sponsor of the event, and we also have a water station near the end of the course (where this photo was taken). Here we are in the red circle below--feeling good at mile 10!

Tuesday afternoon, we headed up to Woodburn to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival and to the outlets. The tulip festival had largely died down by the time we got there, but the tulip fields are the real showstopper, anyway. I mean, seriously...

Last, but not least, we capped off the week with a hike at Silver Falls. This might be one of my favorite places in all of Oregon. The falls are equally spectacular every time you see them.

Bob and Roxanne--we can't wait to see you guys again soon!

Speaking of in-laws, please keep my brother and sister in-law and their son in your prayers. Trenton was admitted to the hospital earlier this week with internal bleeding and they all headed up to LA yesterday for additional testing and to meet with a liver specialist.

We love this sweet boy so much. Hang in there, buddy!
