Culmination & Celebration
We did it!!!
I am officially a Master of Public Health. Done and done.
It's been a crazy two years. Back in 2010, when I started thinking seriously about grad school, the very idea of quitting my wonderful job and going back to school full time seemed impossible, bordering on foolish. I threw my hat in the ring for Oregon State and Portland State on a whim, with no intention of enrolling anywhere else besides SDSU. I even sent in my intent to enroll card. And then I got that fateful call about an OSU scholarship just weeks before our wedding in 2011. And we went for it.
We've never looked back. There are no regrets about getting my Master's and no regrets about moving. Instead, our conversations focus more on statements like, "What if we hadn't done it? What if we didn't know just how great it could be??" It was a risk well worth taking and it has paid off in spades. (I should be able to officially disclose our post-grad plans when we get back from vacation!)
This past weekend, we had plenty of family in town to celebrate all of the pomp and circumstance. My college hosted a reception and hooding ceremony on Friday, followed by OSU's big graduation on Saturday in Reser Stadium. Saturday afternoon, we finally got to show off our new digs and break in the backyard with a celebratory barbecue with family and friends. As the guest of honor, I can confidently say that we had a pretty great weekend :)
Between graduation and our baseball boys in Omaha competing in the College World Series, it was a great weekend to be part of Beaver Nation. Tomorrow, Jake and I head to Cancun for 8 days and nights of rest and relaxation along the Caribbean Sea. Needless to say, we're pretty dang excited.
Adios and GO BEAVS!
